Admin Health workers strike draws quick response from Qld Premier
Hundreds of ASU members joined thousands of their public sector colleagues today, at lunch time rallies around the state, protesting the state government’s inferior pay offer made recently.
ASU Branch Secretary Julie Bignell said “I am very proud of the involvement of our members in this action today, despite some of them feeling intimidated by management.
Admin staff stopped work at all Queensland Hospitals today for two hours, and many attended large rallies in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Rockhampton.”
The Brisbane rally is estimated to have drawn in the vicinity of 4000 workers and drew a quick response from the Premier who has directed her Minister for Industrial Relations to “personally attend wage negotiations on a daily basis if necessary to hammer out a deal as soon as possible.”
“The ASU has been asking for meetings for several weeks now to no avail, so the Premier’s intervention is welcome,” said Julie.
“We hope to hear from government representatives very soon and will be happy to meet with them and progress our members’ issues, including their valid claim for a wage increase that at least matches inflation.”
ASU members will continue to ban specific work functions in the meantime, and more strike action has not been ruled out.
